Fries Litter Utah Interstate Following Semi-Trailer Crash

A semi-trailer carrying french fries crashed on Interstate 15 near Provo, Utah on June 18, slowing traffic in the area as cleanup took several hours.

Lauren Widtfeldt recorded this video while driving home from Father’s Day celebrations. She told Storyful traffic suddenly stopped and she had no idea why.

“It was especially strange when the very first emergency vehicle that passed by on the shoulder was a tow truck carrying a Bobcat loader,” Widtfeldt said, adding that she “had no idea why until I saw the wreck and realized they were using it like a snowplow for french fries.”

She told Storyful it took her nearly 40 minutes to move from where she initially stopped because of the mess on the road. The video shows fries and packaging spread across several lanes of highway.

According to local news reports, the Utah Highway Patrol believe the truck lost control, drifted across lanes, collided with a barrier and hit a light pole which acted “like a knife and cut the tuck’s trailer open.”

No one was hurt and all lanes have since been reopened, reports said. Credit: Lauren Widtfeldt via Storyful
