Manchester United target Bruno Fernandes headed straight for the tunnel after Sporting's late cup defeat to Braga on Tuesday.

The 25-year-old is expected to seal a move to United this month, but at the whistle refused to acknowledge the travelling fans and savour what could be his farewell appearance in a Sporting shirt.

Paulinho's late winner sent Sporting crashing out of the Portuguese league cup and Fernandes snubbed the visiting fans, walking straight down the tunnel and even pushing a camera away as he sought a swift escape from the pitch.

The midfielder had earlier provided an assist as Sporting fought back from a goal down, but the visitors ended the game with eight men as Paulinho's stoppage-time strike crowned a chaotic climax in Braga.

It means Braga progress to Saturday's Taca da Liga final, handing Sporting eight days until their next match as United aim to step up negotiations over Fernandes.

And United could have the signing sealed by the end of the week, with reports there has been a breakthrough in talks.

The clubs were still a long way apart in their valuation of the midfielder on Saturday, but United are acting with more urgency after a significant injury to Marcus Rashford.
