Gabriela Backs Victim Of Voyeurism

7 February 2013

The militant women's party-list Gabriela has expressed support to businesswoman Maila Uy of Tuguegarao City who filed a complaint against his former business partner, a certain "Pichoy Ramirez" for alleged violation of the anti-voyeurism law and called for his ouster as district governor of the Rotary International.

In a letter dated January 10, 2013 to the Board of Directors of Rotary International (RI) based in the United States, Representative Emmi de Jesus said she personally interviewed Uy who "relayed the incidents with painful recollection and how it has adversely affected her and her family's lives."

The board of directors of the Rotary Club of Tuguegarao also passed a resolution last year denouncing the alleged acts of voyeurism by Ramirez, urging the Rotary International to investigate and sanction Ramirez.

Ramirez is said also a business leader in Tuguegarao City, who maintains residence in Cubao, Quezon City.

Uy and her husband had earlier written RI complaining against Ramirez.

In her complaint filed Jan. 4, 2013 before the Quezon City Prosecutor's Office, docketed 13A-000101, Uy alleged that Ramirez has put a hidden video recorder at the bathroom of his townhouse in Cubao where he invited her to sleep over some time in May, 2011 before and after a business trip to and from Mindanao.

The camera recorded not only her using the bathroom to take a bath and pee, but also Ramirez' own wife who also used the bathroom, she said in her statement.

Uy claimed she only found out about the recordings when a female employee working for Ramirez in his offices in Makati City contacted her to show the recordings.

The employee, Gina Frias, claimed in an affidavit that she discovered the camera at the bathroom of Ramirez's office and retrieved its contents.

Apparently, the same camera was also installed in the bathroom of Ramirez's office to peep on female employees using the bathroom, said Gabriela.

It also allegedly showed Ramirez himself fixing the angle of the camera as he was installing it in the bathroom of his townhouse, the group added.
