Gary Oldman WWII drama getting November 2017 release

British actor Gary Oldman

'Darkest Hour' will be hitting US cinema screens just in time for the 2017 holiday season.

The film, which is still in the early stages of production, is being helmed by British director Joe Wright (Atonement) and will star Oldman as a newly-elected Winston Churchill starting to come to grips with the role of Prime Minster and trying to challenge not just Hitler but the British establishment, too.

In a press release, Focus Features, who will distribute the film, also revealed for the first time that the film is scripted by Anthony McCarten (‘The Theory of Everything') and that as well as Oldman in the lead role, the film will also star John Hurt, Kristen Scott Thomas and Lily James.

‘Darkest Hour' will open in US cinemas on November 27 2017.
