Gatineau police are investigating the death of a 35-year-old man Thursday morning as a homicide.

Emergency crews were called to boulevard des Allumettières near rue Saint-Rédempteur around 6:15 a.m. where they found the man with injuries "suggesting he had been the victim of an assault," police said in a news release.

The man was transported to hospital where he was pronounced dead.

He has been identified as Maxim Bourgon-Frigon. Gatineau police said he was known to them and his death is the city's third homicide investigation of the year.

Friday morning, police announced they had arrested a 56-year-old man and 41-year-old woman. They did not release their names, but said police knew them as well.

Police also said Friday it appeared Bourgon-Frigon had been shot and that an autopsy was planned.

Roads in the area were temporarily closed to traffic while police investigated.
