KOTA KINABALU: Gerakan Akar Umbi Umno (GAUM) has lodged two police reports against Parti Warisan Sabah (Warisan) for allegedly slandering the state Barisan Nasional (BN) government, simply to gain cheap publicity.

GAUM president, Datuk Zulkarnain Mahdar, said the reports were made against Warisan vice-president cum Sulabayan assemblyman, Datuk Jaujan Sambakong, and Moyog assemblyman, Terrence Siambun, for remarks made during the recent state assembly sitting deemed as incitement to hatred against the government.

“I am very disappointed that both politicians made allegations (against the state government) without any concrete proof.

“Jaujan has claimed that Yayasan Sabah is now in a critical and dying state, without realising that Yayasan Sabah is the only state-owned foundation in Malaysia.

“If what Jaujan claimed is true, then how was Yayasan Sabah able to establish a university, and now work on the Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC), that is worth hundreds of millions of ringgit?

“(It is because the foundation) invests its savings, and it shows that Yayasan Sabah has assets that can generate income and provide scholarships,” Zulkarnain, who is also Pakatan Pro-BN (Sabah) president, said after lodging the reports at the Karamunsing police station here, yesterday.

He also questioned Terrence’s remarks on the state’s RM2 million in fund allocations to YBs.

“Terrence claimed that the funds were not supported or accompanied by detailed statements of expenses for developments, such as infrastructure in the YBs’ respective areas.

“He should then ask his party president, Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal, who was the former Rural and Regional Development Minister, where he spent the money that was supposed to be used for development (during his tenure),” Zulkairnain said.

He added that he believes representatives from Warisan are desperate to find fault with the state BN government in order to topple it.
