SINGAPORE – A total of 226 applications have been received for the Political Donation Certificate by the close of application on Friday (26 June), said the Elections Department (ELD).

Every candidate who wishes to contest the upcoming general election (GE) must obtain the certificate. In GE2015, a total of 220 applications were received.

In a press release on Saturday, the ELD also said that it had received 37 applications for the Certificate of the Malay Community Committee, and 35 applications for the Certificate of the Indian and Other Minority Communities Committee.

Each group of candidate forming a group representation constituency (GRC) is required to have at least one member belonging to either the Malay or the Indian and other minority communities. The group must produce the relevant certificates to the Returning Officer on Nomination Day.

Nomination Day for GE2020 is on 30 June and Polling Day is on 10 July.
