GE2020: PAP unveils four more new candidates, 3 of them female
SINGAPORE – The People’s Action Party (PAP) introduced four more new candidates for the 10 July General Election in its second unveiling session on Friday (26 June) morning, bringing the total number of newbies unveiled to 27.
Introduced by the party’s second assistant secretary-general Chan Chun Sing, they are: Carrie Tan Huimin, 38, executive director of Daughters of Tomorrow; Chan Hui Yuh, 44, marketing director of Jingslink Marketing; Shawn Huang Wei Zhong, 38, director (enterprise development group) of Temasek Holdings; and Mariam Jaafar, 43, managing director and partner of Boston Consulting Group.
Carrie Tan Huimin
The founder and executive director of Daughters of Tomorrow gave up her job in the private sector in 2012 to set up a social enterprise that enables sustained livelihoods for underprivileged women in Singapore.
Tan hopes to bring more diversity and representation into Parliament so that more voices from different segments of society can be heard.
Chan Hui Yuh
Chan started serving in Siglap in 2000, taking on various community and Young PAP leadership roles. She was later the Chairman of the Siglap Citizens’ Consultative Committee. She subsequently assumed her role as adviser to the Aljunied Grassroots Organisations in 2015 to look after the welfare and needs of residents in Serangoon.
Shawn Huang Wei Zhong
Huang Wei Zhong served in the Republic of Singapore Air Force (RSAF) for 19 years. He is a former fighter pilot and later commanding officer of an F-16 squadron and parade commander for the National Day Parade in 2018.
Over the last ten years, Huang has been an active community volunteer in Taman Jurong constituency. He dedicated most of his free time to mentor children from low-income homes and helped former prison inmates to restart their lives.
As part of Mariam’s role at BCG), she leads the Telecommunications, Media and Technology Practice and the Financial Institutions Practice. As the head of Women@BCG, she helps to plan initiatives that offer career development, mentorship and programs to help women excel personally and professionally.
Mariam aims to build stronger communities and make a difference to the health and welfare of fellow Singaporeans.
