GE2015: PAP names candidates for Tanjong Pagar GRC

The People’s Action Party on Wednesday unveiled its candidates for the five-man Tanjong Pagar GRC, which had been the constituency of Singapore’s late founding leader Lee Kuan Yew.

They are: National Trades Union Congress (NTUC) secretary-general Chan Chun Sing, 45; Law and Education ministries Senior Minister of State Indranee Rajah, 52; surgeon Dr Chia Shi-Lu, 43; Temasek Cares assistant general manager Joan Pereira, 47; and former Assistant Commissioner of Police Melvin Yong, 43.

Chan also said that Minister of State in the Prime Minister's Office Sam Tan will defend his Radin Mas SMC seat.

Introduced at the Tanjong Pagar Plaza Wednesday morning by Chan, Pereira and Yong are the ruling party’s new faces.

They are replacing the late Lee and incumbent Member of Parliament for Tanjong Pagar GRC Lily Neo, 62, in the ruling party’s line-up for the constituency.

A medical practitioner, Neo will be contesting the Jalan Besar GRC together with Minister for Communications and Information Yaacob Ibrahim, mayor of central Singapore district Denise Phua and Whampoa SMC MP Heng Chee How.
