Get set to fill your tummies on rally nights; some of these locations stay open ‘til late too. For your pre and post-rally meals, here are some of the hawker options to check out, while you’re in the area.

Ang Mo Kio GRC
Venue 1: Field in front of Blk 982 Buangkok Crescent (Buangkok MRT)
Park at: Buangkok, Buangkok Vale HDB Multi Storey carparks

Eat at: Yi Jia Eating House at 982 Buangkok Crescent (located one storey up from the Giant supermarket), for a quick meal close to the rally site. You’re not exactly spoilt for choice here but you will find the usual hawker dishes including nasi lemak and fishball soup.

If you’re hankering for late night bites after the rally, head over to The Prata House at 196/198 Yio Chu Kang Road, which is open for 24 hours daily.

If you’re craving for zi char, try Rongji Seafood at 7030 Ang Mo Kio Avenue 5, just a short walk away from the rally site. Most diners flock to this zi char stall at Northstar Building for a taste of its signature crab bee hoon soup and other stir-fried dishes.

Ang Mo Kio GRC
Venue 2: Yio Chu Kang Stadium, 210 Ang Mo Kio Avenue 9 (Yio Chu Kang MRT)
Park at: Yio Chu Kang Stadium carpark

Eat at: Ang Mo Kio Market & Food Centre at 724 Ang Mo Kio Ave 6. Food blogger Maureen Ow of Miss Tam Chiak picked out the Xi Xiang Feng (yong tau foo), Lim Hai Sheng Cooked Food (carrot cake), Fried Hokkien Noodles stalls as her top favourites from this particular hawker centre.

Aljunied GRC
Venue 1: Serangoon Stadium, 33 Yio Chu Kang Road. Park at Serangoon Stadium or Blk 210 Serangoon Central (Serangoon MRT)
Park at: Serangoon Stadium

Eat at: Songkee Fishball Noodles at 532 Upper Serangoon Road to satisfy your late night hunger pangs. The hawker is open until 1 am but is closed on Wednesdays; it’s famed for its chewy fish balls and flavourful fish dumplings.

Venue 2: Field bounded by Defu Avenue 1, Defu Lane 10 and Tampines Road (Kovan or Bartley MRT)
Park at: Limited lots along Defu Lane 10

Where to eat: Seafood Paradise at 91 Defu Lane 10. Local restaurant chain Paradise Group started as a small hawker stall at this location, which has since been upgraded and expanded to an air-conditioned restaurant setting; prices of course, have also adjusted accordingly. Popular picks include its array of crab dishes and other zi char classics.

For more affordable options, head further down the road are Rahmath Muslim Food (for roti prata) and Newton Big Prawn Noodle, both located at 32 Defu Lane 10.

If you’ve time to travel further, make a trip to Hainanese Village Centre at Blk 105 Hougang Ave 1; women’s lifestyle magazine Simply Her named it as one 6 top hawker centres in Singapore. Try the nasi lemak, lor mee, carrot cake, kway chap and fried carrot cake sticks.

Hougang SMC
Venue: Field in front of Blk 837 Hougang Central (Hougang MRT)
Park at: Blk 837 Hougang Central Carpark, Hougang HDB Multi Storey Carpark, Hougang Central HDB Multi Storey Carpark

Eat at: Kovan Hougang Market & Food Centre at 205 Hougang Street 21. This popular hawker centre has almost perpetual queues for fishball noodles and bak chor mee (minced meat noodles).

Just further down from Kovan MRT station are Punggol Nasi Lemak at Upper Serangoon Road and Soon Soon Teochew Porridge, located at 13 Simon Road; food blogger Dr Leslie Tay cited the latter as one of his favourite porridge spots.

Sengkang West SMC
Venue: Field opposite 312 Anchorvale Lane Multi Storey carpark (Sengkang MRT)
Park at: Anchorvale HDB Multi Storey Carpark or Anchorvale Fields HDB Multi Storey Carpark

Where to eat: The main outlet of Armenian Street Fried Kway Teow at 303 Anchorvale Link, which was first started in 1949 on its namesake street. It was featured on the ‘Makan Places Lost and Found’ programme in 2014 and named as one of five famous hawker stalls revived by local newspaper Straits Times in May 2015.

Punggol East SMC
Venue: Field in front of Blk 128C Punggol Field Walk (Punggol MRT/ Coral Edge LRT)
Park at: Punggol HDB Multi Storey Carpark, Punggol Plaza or Edgedale HDB Multi Storey Carpark

Eat at: Punggol Plaza. This residential area admittedly does not have the hawker culture of older residential areas, so it might be easier to head straight to the mall for a quick meal close to the rally site.

Pasir Ris-Punggol GRC
Venue 1: Field opposite Blk 274C Compassvale Bow (Buangkok MRT)
Park at: Compassvale Helm HDB Multi Storey Carpark

Eat at: If you’re craving seafood or zi char-style fried dishes, try Master Crab Seafood Restaurant at 275D Compassvale Link, located just a minute away from Buangkok MRT.

Venue 2: Field at Pasir Ris Park, beside Carpark C (Pasir Ris MRT)
Park at: Pasir Ris Park Carpark C at Pasir Ris Green

Eat at: Mei Xin Minced Meat Noodles at 64 Loyang Way Singapore. Yes it’s definitely in the outskirts of Singapore, so why not make a trip while you’re in the area? On location app Foursquare and food review site Burpple, netizens picked out the roast meat stall among one of the top finds at the same hawker centre.
