GE2015 rallies: How to get there and where to eat (West)

Your rally food guide: Hawker stalls and other meal options before and after the rallies in the west.

Grab the nosh that you need before and after the rallies. These hawker finds have been picked, based on the allocated rally sites in the West.

Most of these hawker stalls and eateries should be within 10 minutes’ walking or driving distance to the site. It’s still good to be early, as traffic congestion is expected from lane closures and the rally crowds.

Chua Chu Kang GRC
Venue 1: Field of Chua Chu Kang Secondary School, 3 Teck Whye Crescent (Chua Chu Kang MRT)
Park at: 1 and 2 Teck Whye Avenue carparks

Eat at: For a late night meal, head over to Choo Chiang Roasted Meat Noodle House at 143 Teck Whye Lane (Chin Sin Eating House) for plates of roast meats with noodles. The stall owned by the food chain is said to be open 24 hours daily.

Venue 2: Bukit Gombak Stadium, 800 Bukit Batok West Avenue 5 (Bukit Gombak MRT)
Park at: Bukit Gombak Stadium carpark

Eat at: Alif Restaurant at 374 Bukit Batok Street 31. This 24 hour stop will be where you can get your late night pratas.

Bukit Panjang SMC
Venue: Field in front of Blk 136 Petir Road (Chua Chu Kang MRT)
Park at: 133A, 137, 140 Petir Road carparks

Eat at: CCK 302 Coffeeshop at 302 Choa Chu Kang Ave 4, located right next to Chua Chu Kang MRT. Foursquare and Burpple app users named the fishball noodles, bak chor mee among its must-tires.

Bukit Batok SMC
Venue: Field in front of Blk 265 Toh Guan Road (Jurong East MRT)
Park at: Toh Guan Multi Storey carpark

Eat at: The food centre at 282A Toh Guan Road. You can’t discount the useful proximity of this hawker centre, when it’s right next to the rally site.

Hong Kah North SMC
Venue: Field of Former Hong Kah Primary School, 1 Bukit Batok West Avenue 2 (Bukit Gombak MRT)
Park at: Carparks at Blk 421 or Blk 423 at Bukit Batok West Avenue 2

Eat at: Yong Xing Coffee Shop at 155 Bukit Batok Street 11. This hawker centre made the news when it sold for as much as $31 million in June 2015, as reported by local tabloid The New Paper; partially because the hawker centre is said to be the main hawker destination in this area. Popular dishes here include hokkien mee, nasi lemak and char kway teow.

West Coast GRC
Venue 1: Field at West Coast Park, beside Carpark 3 (Jurong East MRT)
Park at: West Coast Park carpark

Eat at: McDonalds at West Coast Park is the most convenient option. Of course, do expect quite a few fellow rally attendees to be there too. If you’re feeling peckish after the rally, head towards Niggi’s The Cheese Prata Shop at 18 Clementi Road, for a late night supper since it’s open 24 hours daily.

Venue 2: Clementi Stadium, 10 West Coast Walk (Clementi MRT)
Park at: Clementi Stadium, West Coast Recreation Centre

What to eat: Carrot cake at the Clementi Market and Food Centre, located at 448 Clementi Avenue 3. According to food e-directory Hungrygowhere, the owner first operated with just a push cart in the sixties. Other must-tries at the hawker centre include fish soup and hor fun.

Pioneer SMC
Venue: Jurong West Stadium, 20 Jurong West Street 93 (Pioneer MRT)
Park at: Jurong West Stadium/ Sports Hall carparks or Jurong HDB Multi Storey carpark

Eat at: Fatty Weng Shi Tan Coffeshop at 964 Jurong West Street 91. The food chain serves up roast meat dishes, fishball soup and other hawker food staples.

Yuhua SMC
Venue: Jurong East Stadium, 21 Jurong East Street 31 (Jurong East MRT)
Park at: Jurong East Stadium or Jurong East Sports and Cultural Centre carparks

What to eat: Jurong West Food Centre at 505 Jurong West Street 52 for kueh tutu (coconut cakes), fish soup, thunder tea rice. It was voted as the best hawker centre for the City Hawker Food Hunt 2010, co-organised by City Gas and Chinese newspaper Shin Min Daily News.

Jurong GRC
Venue 1: Jurong Stadium, 10 Fourth Chin Bee Road (Lakeside MRT)
Park at: Jurong Stadium or Jurong Outdoor Futsal Centre carparks

Where to eat: From Lakeside MRT station, travel down to Taman Jurong Market and Food Centre at 3 Yung Sheng Road. Sweet potato porridge, lor mee and bak chor mee (minced pork noodle) are among the recommendations offered by local food guide Makansutra.

Venue 2: Field along Boon Lay Way, beside Chinese Garden MRT Station
Park at: Jurong HDB Multi Storey carpark

Eat at: Yuhua Village Market & Food Centre at 254 Jurong East St 24 is another local hawker favourite. Users of location search app Foursquare picked out you tiao (fried fritter), porridge, roasted meat noodles as the must-tries.

Zai Shun Curry Fish Head at 253 Jurong East St 24 is another popular pick. Besides its titular dish, the hawker stall is also known for its steamed fish dishes as well as its fish selection. For affordable western eats in a food centre, head to The Carving Board just a block away at the 252 Jurong East Street 24.

Yuhua Market and Hawker Centre (not to be confused with the previous hawker centre) at 347 Jurong East Ave 1 , just a few minutes away from the Chinese Garden MRT station. Food and travel blog SethLui.com picked out the sliced fish congee and laksa as some of the must-tries at the food centre.
