Genshin Impact 2.4: Get ready for Enkanomiya, Shenhe and Yun Jin

Be honest, most of us Genshin Impact players were not expecting another new area just yet, but miHoYo decided to drop a holiday surprise during their livestream on Sunday (26 Dec).

In addition to new Liyue characters Shenhe and Yun Jin, as well as the returning Lantern Rite Festival (Genshin Impact's version of the Lunar New Year), miHoYo also unveiled the island of Enkanomiya, coming in January's 2.4 "Fleeting Colors in Flight" update.

Unlike the other Inazuma regions, Enkanomiya sits beneath the ocean, and was once inhabited by the ancestors of the Watatsumi Island residents.

The new area, being underground, will rely on the Dainichi Mikoshi, an artificial sun developed by the ancient inhabitants.

Players will be able to use this "sun" to turn day into night and vice versa in order to solve the puzzles in Enkanomiya, which looks to be full of structures from the ancient civilization. Expect to have more light shed upon the history of Tevyat, which should delight players interested in the lore.

Of course, with a new area comes new enemies, including the Bathysmal Vishaps, which look to be a new boss(es), as well as a new Abyss Lector.

It's certainly beautiful, and it's a permanent area, too, so there will be no rush to complete it before it disappears, and will definitely be something for players to take their time to enjoy.

Enkanomiya looks to be similar to what we got with Dragonspine, so there should be lots for players to find (and hopefully lots of primogems, too).

And we will need those primogems, with two new characters coming. Shenhe and Yun Jin were revealed pretty early, by miHoYo's standards, and the developer has said both are supports.

Shenhe is a 5-star Cryo polearm user, whose abilities focus on boosting Cryo damage from her teammates, meaning she will likely be best friends with Eula and Ganyu, not forgetting Chongyun and Rosaria. Still waiting for a Cryo Catalyst-user, though.

Meanwhile Yun Jin is a 4-star Geo polearm user, who buffs her teammates Normal Attacks based on her Defense.

Which means it's back to Husk of Opulent Dreams farming, in the only Artifact Domain that regularly gives you ATK% artifacts when you want DEF% ones.

Yun Jin's buffs also depend on the variety of Visions in a party, which means she may not have as much of a place in a mono-Geo team composition, compared to Gorou. She's also an opera performer, so her opera lines will be voiced by a professional Peking Opera Artist.

In addition, out of the returning banner characters Xiao, Zhongli and Ganyu, two of them also use polearms. So this may be a good time to make use of all your prototypes. Or stare at Thoma and Rosaria and deeply consider how much you still value their services (if you are doing the same with Raiden Shogun-sama, you do not deserve her).

Fortunately, the Lantern Rite event will also be giving 10 Intertwined Fates, as well a chance for a free Liyue 4-star character (which includes Yun Jin) as an event reward.

There are also new skins for Ningguang (can be earned through the event) and Keqing (can be earned through the magic known as money), and the main quest will involve helping the locals rebuild the Jade Chamber, everyone's favorite high-rise Liyue accommodation that they totally forgot to take screenshots with before its untimely demise.

In terms of quality of life updates, there are a few, but perhaps the one that long-time Genshin players might appreciate the most is more Daily Commissions.

Which is great, because at some point, you want to reach out into the screen and tell Shouta to stop praying. Or smack Shouji cause he never seems to improve in archery. Or tell Ogura Mio to 1) stop accepting random crap for dyes, 2) think of more people to ask for kimono designs, 3) actually create those designs. You get my point.

Overall, Genshin's 2.4 update seems pretty beefy, perhaps even more so than its anniversary update a while back.

Enkanomiya looks to be quite exploration-worthy and the two new characters will definitely inspire more exciting team compositions. And who would say no to finally getting the Jade Chamber back?

That said, we are still waiting for Dendro characters (and a certain Shrine priestess, hint hint and you have 2.4 to get your Catalysts/Shimenawa's Artifact set ready).
