Inazuma's Tsurumi Island, Thoma headline Genshin Impact's 2.2 update

After a packed 2.0 and 2.1 update, it looks like Genshin Impact fans will have have a bit of a longer wait before the next new 5-star character drops.

Developer and publisher miHoYo shared more information about the game's 2.2 update, "Into the Perilous Labyrinth of Fog", in their latest livestream on Sunday (3 October), with the biggest news probably being the final island of the Inazuma region.

In addition to Tsurumi Island's dense fog, it seems like miHoYo may be looking to change the meta with Rifthounds and Rifthound whelps, which can cause the "Corrosion" status that causes characters to continually lose HP, regardless if they've been shielded.

Whether or not this is enough to bump Geo Daddy or Diona off their semi-permanent spots on some of the popular team rosters, that remains to be seen, but those who've already played in the Spiral Abyss will know that healing has been pretty important.

On new characters, those who haven't claimed the free 5-star Aloy will finally get their chance (as well as the opportunity to learn how annoyingly annoying it is to farm Floaters for their mats), but the only new face in the 2.2 update looks to be Childe's Inazuma doppleganger, the fixer Thoma.

Thoma is a 4-star Pyro Polearm user, and will be coming in the second half of 2.2 together with a rerun of the massively-good other Pyro Polearm user, Hu Tao aka Walnut. Thoma has some cumulative shield abilities, but we'll have to wait and see if and how this will behave with the Corrosion status.

For anyone who has tried to wish for and not gotten one of the recent new 4-stars, Sayu and Raiden simp Kujou Sara, Thoma on a banner may not be particularly exciting. However, Hu Tao is still the Pyro DPS of choice, so if you've not gotten her, this would be a good chance.

Before Hu Tao's banner, though, we'll be seeing the second rerun of the Fatui Harbinger Childe/Tartaglia. If you're new and wondering if Childe is worth wishing for, here are our thoughts on him. You can also check out our pre-2.0 recap of the 5-star characters in the game.

Thoma and Sayu will also be getting their own Hangout Events. There are some other seasonal events in 2.2, as well as a new Inazuma-themed realm layout for the Serenitea Pot and, very importantly, more inventory space for all my fellow hoarders out there.

There's also a free copy of the 4-star Liyue rocker Xinyan available from one of the events, so fans who are missing out on her can look forward to that.

It's definitely nowhere as exciting as 2.0 and 2.1, but it's to be expected for those familiar with how Genshin Impact's first year went.

One small optimisation that might please those who use a controller on the PC version - the DualSense Controller will finally be supported.

Genshin Impact's Version 2.2 update will drop on 13 October.
