George Clooney and Brad Pitt have each others' backs.

The Wolfs costars and longtime friends opened up about their decades-long bond — and mutual support when times get tough — in a joint cover interview for the September issue of GQ.

"We’ve been friends for a long time," said Clooney, 63. "And it’s fun because we also check in on each other every once in a while, which is an important part of this. Things get complicated in life and you always have to make sure everybody’s okay."

Pitt, 60, chimed in to praise his friend and Ocean's Eleven costar as "probably the best at understanding, seeing the chessboard and the potential moves."

"I’ll call George on numerous occasions when things get bumpy," he added.

The Bullet Train actor went on to say that Clooney "is going to understand something that no one else is going to understand, that we don’t even have to speak about."

"There’s a comfort in that," Pitt continued. "There’s another smaller tribe that erupts from that because of the pressures and the struggles that one will have in their own life."

Pitt told GQ he has "known [Clooney] since the ’90s," and that they have "been through so much life at this point and so many twists and curves and turns."

"I know he’s got my back. I got his back," Pitt added.

Pitt and Clooney previously costarred in Confessions of a Dangerous Mind (2002) and Burn After Reading (2008), plus three Ocean's movies from 2001 to 2007.

Written and directed by Jon Watts (Spider-Man: No Way Home), the duo's upcoming Apple Studios thriller Wolfs is about two fixers forced to work together on the same assignment.

"Brad and George are forever friends," a source told PEOPLE in February of the two Oscar winners. "They like and respect each other no matter how many years in between gigs together. They go way back, and were happy to work together on this film."

Wolfs was a meaty project and both took a real interest in it,” the insider added of Clooney and Pitt. "They are excited about the film, and enjoying the hell out of it as time leads up to the release."

Wolfs is in theaters Sept. 20.
