Nick Cannon has shared a spoken word video on his social media accounts that speaks out against police brutality.

The rapper, producer and TV host’s video comes after the death of George Floyd, a 46-year-old man who was filmed being arrested in Minneapolis as a white police officer knelt on his neck for nine minutes. Floyd is repeatedly heard saying saying he cannot breathe in video footage of the arrest.

Cannon’s video shows black and white footage from a protest he attended in Minneapolis and scenes of police brutality, as he voices his frustration towards racism, police violence and the media.

“Because I can’t breathe. Potentially, you missing me, clearly not listening, intentionally,” he raps. “We are a people of peace, but like Pac said, I ain’t no killer, but your policies are push me further to the ledge-is-lation jumping off the edge-u-cation while your skin heads to damnation and your Klan-destined rhetoric will forever be evident. F*** the elite and the top three per cent, I’m heaven sent!”

Derek Chauvin, 44, has been charged with murdering Floyd, 46, in Minneapolis. He is due to appear in court today (Monday 1 June).

Floyd’s killing follows similar cases that have driven the Black Lives Matter movement, including Michael Brown in Ferguson and Eric Garner in New York. Protests are ongoing across almost every major city in the US, including Atlanta, New York, Los Angeles and Chicago.

In London, hundreds of people gathered in Trafalgar Square on the weekend in solidarity with those protesting in the US.
