Getai videos for pioneer generation take off with over 1.6mil views

Pioneer Generation package songs

In line with the annual lunar seventh month festivities, a series of videos targeting the pioneer generation were released late last month, generating over 1.6mil views.

Based on iconic Teochew, Cantonese and Hokkien songs familiar to Singapore’s elderly, the pioneer generation task force created a series of videos in these dialects to help listeners remember their Pioneer Generation Package (PGP) and MediShield Life benefits.

Produced with local director Royston Tan, the videos drew on a bold, colourful style and features recognisable local singers, namely popular getai artistes Lee Pei Fen (Teochew), Wang Lei and Liu Lingling (Hokkien), as well as Project Superstar 2 winner Daren Tan (Cantonese).

Tan said, “scripting the ideas for the music videos evoked some of my childhood memories of the places I’ve grown up in, and the classic music videos I’ve watched.”

Ministry of Communications and Information senior director Karen Tan said, “Familiar songs were given a new twist, and much colour and animated motifs were added.”

She said that by combining entertainment with education she hoped the music videos would leave a deeper impression of the policy benefits with the pioneers and their families.
