Gillian Chung and Michael Lai hold pre-wedding party in LA

28 May – Hong Kong singer-actress Gillian Chung and fiancé Michael Lai have held their pre-wedding reception and engagement party in the United States.

As reported on Mingpao, the event, which was held at the Millennium Biltmore Hotel Los Angeles on 25 May, were attended by the families of both side as well as Gillian's celebrity entourage, including good friends Joey Yung, Joyce Cheng, Yumiko Cheng, and Twins partner Charlene Choi.

In his heartfelt speech, Michael expressed, "We came from two different families, cultures and backgrounds. Despite being busy, she still spends a lot of time to maintain our relationship. To this day, I am very thankful to her. It was a great feeling when you meet the right person."

Gillian, who looked stunning in her Jenny Packham's bridal gown, admitted that it wasn't easy being in a long-distance relationship.

"But the two of us sacrificed a lot to see each other and maintain our love. I am not a very mature woman. Michael will have to look after me. We will work hard to support and encourage each other," she said.

Michael also surprised Gillian at the party by performing David Tao's "Love is Simple" with piano accompaniment.

On the other hand, Michael's father later spoke up about their union, saying, "The greatest gift is to have Gillian as our daughter, not just a daughter-in-law."

The couple, who admitted to be dating in October last year, announced their engagement back in February.
