Punk hacker Lisbeth Salander is heading to the world of TV, as Amazon Studios lines up a reboot of Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.

However, according to Variety, this version of author Stieg Larsson's character will not follow any of the storylines from his Millennium trilogy.

Instead, the series will transport Lisbeth to a fresh setting, where she'll be surrounded by new characters and challenges.

Lisbeth was most recently portrayed by The Crown's Claire Foy in 2018 movie The Girl in the Spider's Web, but it's looking like this production will recast the role.

Back in 2011, actress Rooney Mara was Oscar-nominated for her performance in David Fincher's Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, starring opposite Daniel Craig and Stellan Skarsgård.

Prometheus's Noomi Rapace was the original screen Lisbeth, who appeared as the character in all three Swedish adaptations of Larsson's trilogy (including The Girl Who Played with Fire and The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest).

Girl with the Dragon Tattoo joins the likes of The Man in the High Castle and Lord of the Rings on Amazon's list of ambitious book-to-screen projects.

Speaking of which, it was reported earlier this month that LOTR will resume filming in New Zealand after the coronavirus pandemic had halted production.

The new Girl with the Dragon Tattoo series will be available on Amazon Prime.
