Girl Scouts and good values cited

Dingle, Iloilo - Governor Arthur Defensor Sr., speaking at the opening of the 38th encampment of the Girl Scout of the Philippines (GSP)- Iloilo Council at Camp Pasica in Dingle town, Iloilo last Friday lauded the GSP for instilling good values among the youth.

''The girl scout movement has been very supportive of the campaign to inculcate proper values to our youth,'' the Iloilo governor said, reiterating that an incorruptible youth is one of the key ingredients in bringing real change to the country.

''My generation had lost its chance to introduce meaningful reform in our country, and they (the girl scouts) may be our only hope,'' Defensor said.

The governor said girl scouts are taught values of honesty, discipline and self-reliance.

For the past two years, the Defensor administration has allocated a P1.2-million financial aid to GSP-Iloilo Council.

The funding is for the improvement of the GSP-Iloilo Council's administration building constructed within the grounds of the 13-hectare campsite and for its water system.

Meanwhile, more than 2,000 girl scouts from Iloilo and Guimaras provinces and Iloilo City attended the annual camping activity that ended, Sunday, September 22.
