India consumer internet company GirnarSoft, through its subsidiary CarBay, on Wednesday announced a partnership with Indonesian media mogul Emtek Group’s subsidiary KMK Online to launch Oto.com in Jakarta.

Oto.com is a platform that connects customers with automotive manufacturers and distributors. It provides a search feature that allows customers to learn about prices, specifications, features, images, reviews, and road test results from various types of vehicles. It also allows customers to compare different models, and gives updates from the automotive industry.

By launching the platform, the two companies aim to focus on disrupting the fragmented automotive ad listing business in Indonesia. CarBay will have 70 per cent of shares in Oto.com while KMK Online will have 30 per cent of it.

“Emtek’s presence will strengthen our position and widen our viewers’ base … With our technological expertise and Emtek’s vast network, we believe that Oto.com will lead the automotive portal market in Indonesia,” said Oto.com CEO Mohit Yadav in a press statement.

Yadav also explained that increased spending by the country’s middle class and their aspiration to increase social status through personal vehicle purchases are some of the reasons why Indonesia is such an attractive market for Indian startups.

“Combination of aspirational demographic, good indicator of economic growth, increased internet penetration, and Indonesia’s key position in Asia, had made Indonesia an important and interesting market for Girnar,” he said.
