Gisele Bündchen breaks silence on Tom Brady divorce: ‘It’s not so black and white’
Gisele Bündchen has broken her silence about the dissolution of her 13-year marriage with Tom Brady in a new cover story for Vanity Fair.
Speaking to Vanity Fair for its latest issue, the 42-year-old Brazilian supermodel addressed speculation about her divorce from the NFL star last October. When the former couple announced their split, rumours circulated that Brady’s decision to un-retire from football had caused a rift in their marriage.
Calling their divorce “the death of my dream,” Bündchen has now set these rumours straight.
“Listen, I have always cheered for him, and I would continue forever,” Bündchen said in the interview published on 22 March. “If there’s one person I want to be the happiest in the world, it’s him, believe me. I want him to achieve and to conquer. I want all his dreams to come true. That’s what I want, really, from the bottom of my heart.”
When asked whether there were stories written about their divorce that weren’t true – that she had given Brady an ultimatum to choose between their family and his career – Bündchen replied: “Everything.”
“What’s been said is one piece of a much bigger puzzle,” she continued. “It’s not so black and white.”
“Sometimes you grow together; sometimes you grow apart,” she added. “When I was 26 years old and he was 29 years old, we met, we wanted a family, we wanted things together. As time goes by, we realise that we just wanted different things, and now we have a choice to make. That doesn’t mean you don’t love the person. It just means that in order for you to be authentic and truly live the life that you want to live, you have to have somebody who can meet you in the middle, right? It’s a dance. It’s a balance.”
Last year, Gisele Bündchen and Tom Brady finalised their divorce after 13 years of marriage. According to People, the couple agreed on joint custody of two children: Benjamin, 12, and Vivian, nine. In addition to their two children, Brady also shares 15-year-old son John with ex Bridget Moynahan.
