GMA denies cutting short AlDub's first drama

The network says that Alden Richards and Maine Mendoza's drama will end in May as originally scheduled

28 Apr - GMA has denied that AlDub's first drama, "Destined to be Yours" is ending its run in May due to poor viewership.

As reported on Chisms, rumours that the drama has been cut short sparked after GMA Network consultant, Suzette Doctolero responded on a comment from a fan on Twitter about the sudden change in the story's direction.

In defending the change, Doctolero stated that the writers are doing their best, which is why the later episodes are now rated, adding that it was a flop in the first three weeks.

Based on AGB Nielsen data, Alden Richards and Maine Mendoza's first television drama did start low in its first three weeks, but it is slowly gaining more viewers.

However, when it was revealed that the drama will end its run in May, many thought that the ratings played a part in cutting it short.

When asked about it recently, GMA's Senior Vice President for Entertainment TV, Ms. Lilybeth G. Rasonable denied that the drama has been cut short, saying that it was all according to schedule.

"DTBY's story was really written to end in May. It is not being shortened. We fixed the schedule because that after the soap, [Richards and Mendoza] will already start shooting for the movie," she said.

She also denied Doctolero's claim about the rating, saying that the drama's average rating is higher than its competition.

"Her tweets are her personal opinions and not those of the network. We will deal with her separately and privately," said Rasonable.
