Golden Globe Awards receive 2017 event date and new eligibility rules

The Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) has confirmed the date for the 74th annual Golden Globe Awards and revised the rules in a bid to set stronger guidelines to distinguish between comedy and drama (via Deadline).

The next instalment of the annual event will be held on Sunday, January 8, 2017, produced by dick clark productions in association with HFPA, and aired live nationwide by NBC starting at 5pm PT, from the Beverly Hilton.

However, following the backlash last year when Matt Damon's "The Martian" was nominated in the comedy/musical comedy, the organization has made some rule changes regarding eligibility.

The HFPA now states that: "Motion pictures shall be entered in the category that best matches the overall tone and content of the motion picture. Thus, for example, dramas with comedic overtones should be entered as dramas".
