Good reasons to hangout at Pasar Santa

Picture a traditional market. Now picture an upgraded and more modern version of a traditional market and you get Pasar Santa (Santa Market). Located in South Jakarta, this is the hippest place in town at the moment.

The first floor of the market still remains traditional; however the second floor has recently been redesigned to look more contemporary, artsy and trendy while retaining a good market spirit.

Located in South Jakarta on Jl. Cipaku I, Pasar Santa is full of food stalls, vintage shops, cool barbers and coffee shops. There is great street art on the walls and music playing. Each outlet has its own vibe, specialties, clientele and music. And most importantly, food tastes amazing and is very reasonably priced.

Due to its popularity, especially among the very hip Betawi (native Jakarta) youth, the place can quickly get very crowded on the weekends so expect long lines. Weekdays are better for those who want to avoid the crowds, however not all stalls will be open.

All outlets are worth giving a try but the following are my top-three picks.

ABCD
ABCD is a coffee shop, but not your average coffee shop. It is one where people are passionate about coffee and want to share their love by introducing specialty grade coffee beans in a cup of an espresso-based hot drink, or filtered coffee.

Lucky for us, they also have a school for coffee lovers. Students have the option of taking a single two-hour long introductory coffee appreciation class, or a three-day course to master the art of coffee making. At the end of the course, students get the chance to practice at ABCD.

For more information about the courses, you can visit the shop’s website, abunchofcaffeinedealers.com and send it direct inquiries.

Papricano
Papricano is a Mexican canteen where food is made with love and passion.

Behind the little kitchen, loud music is usually blaring and you get to see happy staff dancing to the sounds of music while adding guacamole to the dish you just ordered. That positive vibe and happiness can be quite contagious and you’ll soon start giggling and dancing with them.

Their quesadillas are a must try.

D.O.G
Last but not least, D.O.G (Dudes Of Gourmet) is a hot dog joint. Contrary to traditional hot dog joints though, this place serves the meat in a black bun.

The bread is a little sweet and there are a variety of toppings to choose from.

These hot dogs are truly delicious and filling. You only need to look at the number of people lining up in front of the place to understand its popularity.
