The latest in Google's series of "doodles" pays tribute to late American guitarist and inventor Les Paul on what would be his 96th birthday, June 9.

"For the next 24 hours on the Google homepage, you’ll find an interactive, playable logo inspired by the guitar developed by the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee that made the sound of rock and roll possible," said Google in a June 8 blog post.

The interactive logo lets users strum away on a Google-shaped guitar by moving their mouse over the strings or tapping away on the keyboard.

Users in the US can record 30-second takes of their musical compositions by clicking the black "compose" button beside the logo. A second click on the button will display a link to the recording.
