Google+ trends: Bay Bridge lighting ceremony

On Wednesday, March 6, Google+ users are buzzing about the lighting ceremony of San Francisco's Bay Bridge, which saw the iconic landmark illuminated by thousands of LED lights.

On Tuesday night the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge was transformed into what is being billed as the world's largest LED light sculpture. The thousands of computer-activated lights that form the changing display were turned on by artist Leo Villareal, who was quoted in the New York Times as saying, "My inspiration comes from the motion around the bridge, the kinetic activity of boats, water, clouds, traffic."

The sculpture, known as " The Bay Lights," can all be controlled via Villareal's laptop and will remain lit every night for the next two years. Amateur footage of the ceremony and the lighting display can be found at youtube.com/watch?&v=ICYQ5ecpYDU.
