President Rodrigo Duterte has ordered the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) and the Office of Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea to evaluate the possibilities of replacing the name of Benham Rise with Philippine Rise.
Presidential spokesperson Undersecretary Ernesto Abella said this aims to emphasize the Philippines’ sovereignty rights and jurisdiction of the Philippines in Benham Rise.
Secretary Abella added that a motion has been submitted to have a legal and logistic study to implement the presidential order.
