Gov't agency Chairman with 'Datuk' title remanded in Penang


GEORGE TOWN: A chairman of a federal government agency with a ‘Datuk’ title has been remanded for five days to assist investigations into alleged abuse of power at a local foundation.

Magistrate Mohamad Amin Shahul Hamid granted the remand application by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) against the 70-year-old, affective today.

The chairman, clad in orange lockup attire, arrived at the magistrate's court here at 10.30am.

He will be investigated under Section 23 of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Act 2009.

The man turned up at the MACC Penang office at about 8.47pm yesterday to have his statement taken pertaining to the case, but was later detained.

He holds a position at a Bumiputera-related foundation and is alleged to have abused his position for an offense involving millions of ringgit.
