KUALA LUMPUR: Dewan Negara senator Datuk Seri Khairudin Abd Samad has called on the government and ministers to place their trust in government officers.
He said that by doing so, it will enable a smooth delivery system to the people.
Khairudin said, after Pakatan Harapan (PH) became the government, he was informed by government officers that new ministers did not trust officers currently working in their ministries.
“I was informed the new government and government officers do not really trust one another. I am not making accusations but this is what I heard from the government officers.
“I was informed that procurements worth RM20,000 must be signed off by the minister. It seems like the minister do not trust their officers.
“I hope the government will trust their officers, so that the delivery system to the people will not become a problem to the people. At the same time, government officers also must serve the government of the day,” he said when debating the motion of thanks on the Royal Address by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong in the Dewan Negara on Tuesday.
Khairudin said a similar phenomenon took place when the then-Pakatan Rakyat captured Selangor in 2008.
“The former state secretary at the time admitted that it was a problem, as they had all the while been under Barisan Nasional, only to suddenly switch to another government.
“The problem is the same now, but there has to be trust between officers and the new administration. Otherwise, it will be a problem for the people,” he said.
