We’ve been mentally preparing for the Modern Family series finale for quite some time. ABC announced last year that season 11 of the beloved sitcom would be its last, and after that we spent our weeks taking in all the Dunphy-Pritchett-Tucker goodness we could handle. But we still couldn’t avoid the harsh reality that they won’t be back next fall, and now the network is finally forcing us to come to grips.
ABC has confirmed that the Modern Family series finale will air on April 8, 2020. Mark that in your calendar, clear your schedule, and stock up on tissues at Costco people because this is going to be one hard goodbye.
Modern Family first debuted in 2009, and was an instant success. It’s won five Emmys for outstanding comedy series, and it launched several of the cast members into superstardom.
Though the farewell will be hard for the viewers, it’s going to be even more heartbreaking for the cast.
“I will probably miss the people the most,” Sarah Hyland told People. “Our crew is amazing and, of course, I love our cast, they are very special people.”
But just like the tight-knit characters on the show, we’re certain everyone will remain close even as they pursue other projects. As for us, we’re still sobbing over a pint of ice cream and trying to collect ourselves while watching re-runs. Don’t judge the process!
