Grace Poe: No qualms about being 'adopted'

Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) chair Grace Poe-Llamanzares Jr. has no problem in being "adopted."

In fact, Poe-Llamanzarez took pride in being one of three senatorial aspirants that have been adopted as guest candidates of both administration's Liberal Party (LP) and United Nationalist Alliance (UNA).

"That's story of my life. I am adopted by all," Poe-Llamanzares said after filing her certificate of candidacy for senator at the Commission on Election (Comelec) in Intramuros before 2 pm on Tuesday.

"I want to thank everyone (from UNA and LP) for everything they gave me," she added.

The MTRCB chief was teary eyed when Roces, who accompanied her at the Comelec office, promised to take care of her children as soon as she starts campaigning with LP in February.

Poe-Llamanzares, who is the adopted daughter of "Da King" and actress Susan Roces, clarified she is running as an independent candidate to finish her father's fight.

Poe ran for president but lost to former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo. Accusations of cheating arose after the 2004 polls.

"I really think its important for our country men to see me make an independent stand so that no one would accuse me of favoring one over the other," she explained

"When my dad ran for office, his platform is basically to help less fortunate Filipinos out of poverty. He used to say Filipino families fight for breakfast, lunch, and dinner," Llamanzares in a separate interview.

"I want to help these families because from what I learned from MTRCB is that 35 percent of population is 0 to 14 years old. I want to give them hope," she added.

At the same time, she said she wanted to be an example that anybody who comes from a small background of public office may still be able to make a change as long as they do not favor anyone.

As head of MTRCB since 2010, the adopted daughter of Poe with actress Susan Roces intensified campaigns for young generation's guided viewing, banning TV shows that violated ethical programming.

"MTRCB may be a small agency but it initiated programs that helped the production of indie films. We were able to help in small ways," she added.

"I hope the people will remember the hardwork I put in as MTRCB chief," she added.
