Graham Norton admits to 'zoning out' while interviewing guests

From Digital Spy

Graham Norton has admitted that he sometimes tunes out a little while he's chatting to the famous guests he hosts on his shows.

The TV and radio presenter helms BBC One chat show The Graham Norton Show and his own Saturday morning show on Radio 2 and has interviewed a plethora of stars over the years.

But according to The Sun's Bizarre TV column (quotes via Female First), Norton sometimes feels "bored" while his guests are talking and zones out.

"You zone back in and they're still talking and you think: 'I wonder if I've missed anything?' But, you probably haven't. That's the trick. It's just yakkety yak. If I'm on it, I'm listening. I'm still bored."

Norton, who is also the commentator for the UK coverage of the annual Eurovision Song Contest, also revealed that he doesn't like every star he interviews and said that some put up a "facade" while on his show.

"There are people on the show that you don't like, that's inevitable, but that doesn't mean they are a bad guest," he explained. "Often people I don't like, they're rather good guests.

"The people who work on the show dislike a lot more guests than I do. When they get on the sofa they're nicer. Performers - actors, singers, models - don't want to drop that facade in front of an audience. They want that audience to like them."

One star he is a big fan of is Downton Abbey actress Elizabeth McGovern, who apparently "didn't say anything" when he accidentally got her name wrong on air which made him like her "so much".

The Graham Norton Show launched its 28th series earlier this month and has already welcomed guests including Top Gear host Freddie Flintoff and Marvel and Star Wars star Samuel L Jackson onto the real or virtual sofa.

There are more famous faces lined up to appear too, with The Crown stars Josh O'Connor and Emma Corrin, Strictly Come Dancing's Nicola Adams and pop legend Kylie Minogue all signed up for a future episode.

The Graham Norton Show continues this Friday (October 23) at 10.45pm on BBC One.
