GEORGE TOWN, March 29 ― Opposition leader Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail and former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad's positions in the new Pakatan Harapan pro-tem committee has yet to be decided, DAP's Lim Guan Eng said today.
The DAP secretary-general said the Pakatan Harapan presidential council had only decided that Dr Mahathir and Dr Wan Azizah will be the two main symbols of a “new” Pakatan Harapan.
“Their positions in the committee will be decided in subsequent meetings but it was decided that they will be the two main personalities as the symbol of Pakatan Harapan,” he told reporters at a press conference in his office today.
Lim was commenting on the Dr Mahathir and Dr Wan Azizah being named as advisers to the pro-tem committee.
Lim also said that at the moment the name of the newly set up coalition with Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM) will remain as Pakatan Harapan.
“Dr Mahathir accepts the name Pakatan Harapan so it is likely to remain as Pakatan Harapan,” he said.
The Penang lawmaker said that the two former arch enemies were chosen by the presidential council to be the symbol of Pakatan and to project an image of unity.
“They are the symbol of looking forward to a political reset, a reset of the political future where we can look towards a better future,” he said.
He said that with PPBM joining Pakatan, the coalition can now look towards a better future to show the people that they can retain what is good and discard what is bad.
“We are also inclusive and embrace everyone who wants to be a part of this political reset for a new Malaysia,” he said.
The Pakatan Harapan presidential council met on Monday and made a decision to form a 18-member Harapan pro-tem committee that included PPBM.
It was reported that Dr Mahathir and Dr Wan Azizah will be the advisers for the pro-tem committee while the remaining members will be equally divided between the four allies in the Pakatan.
