KUALA LUMPUR: Public Accounts Committee (PAC) member Datuk Seri Ahmad Hamzah today reprimanded Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng for raising the issue of the allegedly missing RM19.4 billion Goods and Services Tax (GST) refunds issue in Dewan Rakyat.

Lim, who delivered his wrapping-up speech on Budget 2019 today, touched on the issue when he answered a question from Datuk Seri Najib Razak (BN-Pekan) over the GST refunds issue.

Ahmad (BN-Jasin) asked Lim not to discuss the matter further as it would preempt the release of PAC’s report on the issue next week.

“I suggest that the minister does not discuss the issue of GST refunds as the PAC will table the report on it next week.

“Do not make any accusations.”

Public Accounts Committee (PAC) member Datuk Seri Ahmad Hamzah says PAC will table its GST refunds report next week.

Lim said he would wait for the report, and added that he hoped the former finance minister (Najib) would not “run away” prior to the report’s release. “The money (GST refunds) is in the account. You (Lim) are wrong. The report will be tabled,” said Ahmad. © New Straits Times Press (M) Bhd
