Guard charged with murder of colleague, pleaded guilty to possessing gun without license

PARIT: A security guard was today charged at the Magistrate’s Court with murdering a colleague last month. Mohd Halin Jabar, 52, was accused of murdering Masri Pandak, 37, at a guard post at Idaman Pharma Manufacturing Sdn Bhd, Lot 120 Taman Farmaseutikal, Seri Iskandar, here, at about 7.55pm on Aug 31. He was charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code which carries a mandatory death penalty. No plea was recorded. Prosecution was conducted by Deputy Public Prosecutor Nur Farhana Hashim while the accused was unrepresented. Magistrate Mohd Fitri Sadaruddin fixed Oct 31 for re-mention for the autopsy report on the victim. Earlier at the Ipoh Sessions Court, the accused pleaded guilty for unlawful possession of firearms. He was charged under Section 8 of the Firearms (Increased Penalty) Act 1971 which carries a maximum penalty of 14 years’ jail and six strokes of whipping. Mohd Halin was accused of unlawfully possessing a semi-auto gun bearing serial number 83451. He allegedly committed the offence at the same location at 7.55pm on Aug 31. Prosecution was conducted by Deputy Public Prosecutor Muhammad Fauzi Md Yusof while the accused was unrepresented. Judge Murtazadi Amran fixed Sept 19 for mention. The accused was not granted bail.
