The thing about mistakes is that sometimes they can only be seen with the benefit of hindsight. We know it, and so does Gwyneth Paltrow, who recently revealed her biggest film role regret.

The actor and Goop founder recently revealed that her performance in Shallow Hal – the 2001 romantic comedy about a man who is hypnotised to see people’s inner beauty in their outward appearances – was her least favourite part, labelling her part a “disaster”. Paltrow wore a body suit to play an overweight woman, Rosemary, who appeared thin to Jack Black’s character, Hal.

In a video recently shared to Netflix’s official Twitter account, Paltrow played a game called The BFF Test with Gwyneth Paltrow with her assistant and friend, Kevin Keating. The game aims to put their friendship to the test with Paltrow quizzing Keating on his knowledge of her.

“What is my least favourite performance?” Paltrow asked during the segment. To which he responded: “Shallow Hal?” Paltrow was quick to agree, and Keating added: “I’m not sure who told you to do that one, but it wasn’t me.” Paltrow replied: “That was before your time! See what happened? Disaster.”

This isn’t the first time Paltrow has expressed regret over the role. In a 2001 interview with W magazine, she said: “The first day I tried [the fat suit] on, I was in the Tribeca Grand and I walked through the lobby. It was so sad; so disturbing. No one would make eye contact with me because I was obese. I was wearing this black shirt with big snowmen on it.”

She continued, “For some reason the… clothes they make for women that are overweight are horrible. I felt humiliated because people were really dismissive.”

During the game, Paltrow also revealed her favourite performance, her 2011 Grammy’s performance with CeeLo Green, as well as who the most famous person in her phone was. Keating guessed, “Beyonce, maybe?” and Paltrow agreed: “She’s pretty famous.”
