Gym bunny beauties: 7 out of 10 UK women wear makeup to exercise

As all eyes fall on the world's best athletes at the London Olympics, a new UK survey has revealed seven out of ten women wear makeup to exercise.

With famous sportswomen such as US swimmer Natalie Coughlin and British cyclist Victoria Pendleton becoming health and beauty ambassadors for global haircare mark Pantene, the realms of beauty and fitness have never been so closely tied, and it appears women are feeling pressure to look good while they work out.

A recent survey by UK retailer Asda revealed two in five of women questioned apply mascara before doing any form of exercise in public. A total of 34 percent of gym bunnies apply foundation before hitting the gym, and 21 percent favor lip gloss. Other popular items include lip balm (19 percent) and fake tan (17 percent), while one in four women admitted to spending longer than 15 minutes preparing for a session in the gym.

Meanwhile, ladies who feel less than confident about their looks when exercising should follow the advice of Olympic experts Mary Killman and Mariya Koroleva. Just last month the US synchronized swim team members divulged their beauty secrets to bellasugar.com.

Unexpected items used by the pair include unflavored cooking Jello, which they use to keep hair out of their faces, add shine and strengthen tresses. The pair also apply ChapStick under their makeup to act as a primer.
