Hailey Baldwin says she has a genetic condition that affects her fingers: 'Why they're so crooked and scary'

Hailey Baldwin has revealed she suffers from a genetic condition that affects the appearance of her fingers.

The 23-year-old addressed her slightly crooked pinky fingers, which she claims people “roasted” or made fun of her for, on Instagram Stories.

“Ok let’s get into the pinky conversation… because I’ve made fun of myself about this for forever so I might as well just tell everyone else why they’re so crooked and scary,” the model captioned a photo of her left hand.

In a second post, which has since been deleted but was captured by screenshot, Baldwin then shared a picture of a Wikipedia page for a congenital disorder called Ectrodactyly.

“I have this thing called Ectrodactyly and it causes my pinky fingers to look the way they do,” she wrote. “It’s genetic, I’ve had it my whole life.

“So people can stop asking me: ‘Wtf is wrong with her pinky fingers’. Here is what’s wrong! Lol.”

According to the National Organisation for Rare Disorders (NORD), Ectrodactyly, also known as split hand malformation, is a “genetic disorder characterised by the complete or partial absence of some fingers or toes, often combined with clefts in the hands or feet.”

The disorder may also cause the appearance of webbing between fingers or toes and may give the hands and/or feet a “claw-like appearance,” NORD states.

Baldwin concluded her finger-focused post asking that people stop criticising the appearance of her fingers.

“So in conclusion please stop roasting me about my pinky fingers,” she wrote.

Earlier this month, Baldwin also came to the defence of her husband Justin Bieber, after the singer revealed his recent appearance was the result of suffering from Lyme disease and Mono.

“For those who are trying to downplay the severity of Lyme disease. Please do your research and listen to the stories of people who have suffered with it for years,” the model wrote. “Making fun of and belittling a disease you don’t understand is never the way, all it takes is educating yourself.”
