The Han Solo solo film

At last, the Han Solo movie has a name! And no, it’s not Scruffy-Looking Nerf Herder. On Tuesday, director Ron Howard revealed via Twitter video that his Star Wars anthology film will be called Solo: A Star Wars Story.  Watch the announcement (with an assist from a familiar furry friend) below.

The second standalone Star Wars film after Rogue One, Solo will follow the adventures of young Han leading up to the events of the first Star Wars film, 1977’s A New Hope. Alden Ehrenreich plays the smuggler with a heart of gold originally played by Harrison Ford, while Donald Glover plays his business-savvy friend Lando Calrissian, introduced in 1980’s The Empire Strikes Back and originally played by Billy Dee Williams. The film also stars Woody Harrelson, Emilia Clark, Thandie Newton, Paul Bettany, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Warwick Davis, Clint Howard, and Joonas Suotamo (in the role of Chewbacca, originated by Peter Mayhew).

Further plot details are unknown, although Howard has been dropping hints via Instagram that Darth Vader and the planet Kessel (as in “the Kessel Run”) might be involved. Howard took over as director of Solo in June, replacing original helmers Phil Lord and Chris Miller.

Solo: A Star Wars Story opens in theaters May 25, 2018.
