SINGAPORE — Fast food chain McDonald's announced on Thursday (30 April) that it will be extending its closure beyond 4 May.

In a Facebook post, McDonald’s said that while it has been allowed to to restart operations from next Monday under the essential services framework, it has decided to “extend our closure for just a little longer for the safety and well-being of our employees and customers”.

It added, “We will continue to monitor the COVID-19 situation in the community before determining an appropriate time for us to reopen.”

“Our frontline employees are important to us and we wish for all of them to stay home a little longer. They can also be rest assured that their jobs are secure, and that they will be paid their salaries during this temporary closure.”

The fast food chain closed all its outlets, including McDelivery and drive-through services, from 19 April after it was linked to seven confirmed cases of the COVID-19 infection.

It had earlier closed six branches for deep cleaning after some employees tested positive for the virus. These were outlets at Changi Airport Terminal 3, Lido, Forum Galleria, Parklane and Geylang East Central, and a Drive-Thru store at a Shell petrol kiosk along Tampines Ave 2.

In response to queries from Yahoo News Singapore, a McDonald’s spokesperson referred to the Facebook post and added that it was unable to confirm when McDonald's restaurants would reopen.
