Episode 1 of Issa Rae's new series, "Insecure," is available to view via HBO Now, HBO Go and HBO On Demand in advance of its October 9 debut.

A writer, director, producer and actress, Issa Rae became well known following the success of web series "Awkward Black Girl."

The two-season show charted the fortunes and failings of a young woman making her way through the dull days of a dead-end office job while looking for friendship and even a spot of romance.

Music mogul Pharrell Williams was impressed enough to support the show's second season, and Rae then started working for HBO on "Insecure," which deals with similar themes, and is co-written with Larry Wilmore of "The Daily Show" and "The Nightly Show."

Eight episodes of "Insecure" are set to air on HBO's TV channel from October 9. August saw HBO announce that Rae would be developing programming across its stable of distribution channels.
