JOHOR BARU, Dec 4 — The Health Ministry has assured that upgrading works at the Sultanah Aminah Hospital (HSA) main building, including the fire-damaged intensive care unit (ICU) ward will be done next year.

The assurance of the upgrading works, comes after Health Minister Datuk Seri Dzulkefly Ahmad paid a visit to Johor Ruler Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar at Istana Pasir Pelangi here today.

Sultan Ibrahim’s on his official Facebook page said Dzulkefly gave a briefing, which was also attended by Johor Regent Tunku Mahkota Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim, on the ongoing repairs at the hospital.

“This includes upgrading of electrical wiring works for the 70-year-old main building of the hospital.

“The former ICU where the tragic fire took place in October 2016, will also be repaired and refurbished,” said Sultan Ibrahim.

The 60-year-old state monarch also reminded the minister that there was a dire need for another hospital in Johor Baru as he wants his subjects in Johor to enjoy improved public health services.

He added that they also discussed development plans regarding the proposed Tunku Laksamana Johor Cancer Centre, which is dedicated to the treatment, research and education of cancer.

“The Asian American Medical Group (AAMG), which is spearheading the project, requested the minister for more cancer experts to offer improved service for patients.

“This cancer centre will realise the wishes of Almarhum Tunku Abdul Jalil, who has always wanted to extend help to cancer patients,” added Sultan Ibrahim.

Previously, on late Monday, Tunku Ismail expressed his disappointment over the Federal government’s lack of efforts in repairing the fire-damaged ICU ward at HSA nearly four years after the fire.

The fire had claimed six lives at that time.
