Health workers should be paid more than MPs, ministers and lords combined
Over the coronavirus pandemic, we were struck by the compassion, dedication and devotion of industrious healthcare workers. We felt a deep sense of pride and humbling gratitude to those who worked assiduously and spent sleepless nights in our service. They deserve better pay and benefits, more than MPs, ministers and lords combined. Health workers are the bedrock of society and time is ripe for a renewed focus on innovation, prevention, fairness, social solidarity and better working conditions for all.

In response to the letter regarding attacking Dominic Cummings, rather than focusing on Labour politicians who broke the rules too, some key points have been overlooked. For example, Professor Fergusson and his partner did not drive the length of the country to be together, and, importantly, the professor apologised and resigned.

Correct me if I am wrong but I thought it was now a legal requirement to wear a face covering in all retail outlets. Today I was only one of two people masked up on such a visit. There was a small discreet sign on the door advising that the wearing of masks was compulsory. I have been told by staff that they have been instructed not to ask people to wear masks to avoid confrontation. Seems they are OK when refusing to serve alcohol or tobacco to underage customers, who would only really harm themselves, but are reluctant to take action to protect staff and other customers.
It should be mandatory that all retail outlets post a large sign at the entrance informing customers that they will not be served unless faces are covered or they have a medical certificate explaining exemption. I certainly will be advising managers that I will no longer shop with them unless that are prepared to enforce the law. Maybe the law needs to be changed to make it illegal to serve an unmasked or non-exempt customer.

When is Jeremy Corbyn going to admit that he was the main reason for Labour losing the last general election? The reasons for this are many but include a general distrust of him by the electorate, an over-long list of policies in the manifesto, flip-flopping over Brexit and an extremely half-hearted approach to tackling antisemitism within the party.
As a Labour member I have to admit to voting for him as a leader thinking erroneously that he would bring a breath of fresh air into the party. How deluded I was! Keir Starmer by contrast has already proved that he is prepared to face up to difficult issues within the party and able to make the prime minister look like the bumbling narcissist that he is at Prime Minister’s Questions.

I notice that this year’s “I’m a Celebrity” is to be located in a ruined British castle, rather than the Australian jungle. Maybe, just maybe, the celebrities – who will probably be unknown to most of us – will be encouraged to find and reside in the oubliette at an early stage?
