Heat's Spoelstra named East coach for All-Star Game
The NBA announced Sunday that Miami Heat head coach Erik Spoelstra has been named head coach of the 2013 NBA Eastern Conference All-Star team.
Spoelstra earned the honor because the Heat has the best record in the Eastern Conference in games played through Sunday. The Heat is 30-14, a half-game ahead of the New York Knicks, who are 30-15.
This marks Spoelstra's first appearance as head coach and the second time a Heat head coach has earned the honor.
He coached the Heat to the NBA championship last season.
The All-Star Game will be played next Sunday in Houston.
