KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Meteorological Department (METMalaysia) has issued an alert of continuous heavy rain and strong winds for several states of the peninsula and Sarawak from today until Sunday.
“(Areas affected are) all of Terengganu; Kelantan (Tumpat, Pasir Mas, Kota Baru, Bachok, Machang and Pasir Puteh); Pahang (Kuantan, Pekan and Rompin); Johor (Mersing and Kota Tinggi); and Sarawak (Kuching, Samarahan, Serian, Betong, Sarikei, Sibu and Mukah),” said METMalaysia’s director-general Alui Bahari.
Strong winds of up to 40-50 kilometres per hour, and waves of up to 3.5 metres are expected in the waters off the east coast of the peninsula during this period.
Alui added that the condition has been brought about by a monsoon surge from inland China. -- BERNAMA © New Straits Times Press (M) Bhd
