Heavy rains batter north India

STORY: Moderate to heavy showers at several places led to waterlogging; traffic moved at a slow speed and caused commuters inconvenience.

Some people waded through knee-high water on roads and in streets to get from one place to another.

"The road is completely flooded today. Yesterday, there was less water comparatively. There is so much water that it will not drain out in two days," said a Gurugram resident, Raja.

Waterlogging is an annual problem during the monsoon season in South Asia, but the impact is worsened by crumbling civic infrastructure, clogged drains and uncontrolled urban expansion.
