Helen Hunt: Knitting calms awards nerves

Helen Hunt is “knitting as fast as [she] can” to deal with her awards season anxiety.

The 49-year-old actress has impressed critics with her performance in new movie The Sessions, and is in the running to be named best supporting actress at a host of awards including the Oscars, Golden Globes and BAFTAs. Helen is overwhelmed by the response to her latest big screen outing and says creating toys for her nine-year-old daughter Makena is proving a useful distraction.

"I don't have any control over it," Helen said as she knitted during an interview with British newspaper The Independent. "Look, I'm knitting as fast as I can!"

In The Sessions, Helen plays real-life ‘sex surrogate’ Cheryl Cohen Greene who assists a quadriplegic in his quest to lose his virginity.

The movie required Helen to appear in several nude scenes, which was a challenge for the actress.

"I certainly was not super-human and without any nerves about feeling exposed or judged for being a naked person. But whatever fears I had were smaller than my desire to be in it," she explained. "My vagina has never been in a movie [before], if we're going to go there."

Helen enjoyed a successful stint in US TV shows including Mad About You – winning best comedy actress four times at the Emmys during the ‘90s.

The star would never rule out a return to the small screen, saying she would take the right role "in a minute". However, Helen is reluctant to commit to a regular TV appearance because it means she would miss out on spending time with her family.

"Then you're not picking up your daughter from school,” she added.

With its new President and CEO of America, Michael Horn, on stage in New York after just 100 days on the job, Volkswagen debuted its 2015 Jetta. You'd be forgiven for noticing little differences compared to the outgoing model, and in the words of Horn himself, the changes are indeed subtle. The most notable of those subtleties is the all-new 2.0 liter turbo diesel motor, offering 45 mpg highway and a modest increase of 10 hp. For VW, diesel is where it's at.

Aston Martin is going downmarket, sort of. The 2015 Vantage GT, a sport-styled variant of Aston’s legendary flagship car, draws style and performance tips from their GT4 race cars, which will be running in North America this year. It’s also priced at $99,900, which shows that the market for these kinds of consumer sports cars has boomed in recent years.
