Hello from the other side: 2 in 3 business travelers don't stay in touch with family

Only one third of business travellers try to stay in touch with family

They admitted that benefits of travel outweigh maintaining family relationships.

Only 3 out of 10 (35%) Singapore business travellers put in greater effort to stay in touch with family and friends while on the road, according to CWT Connected Traveller Study by Carlson Wagonlit Travel Research.

Nearly half (49%) of travellers admitted that they encountered problems with home and personal relationships because of business travel.

Additionally, 7 in 10 (74%) travellers admit that they are more likely to say that the benefits brought about by being on the road more than make up for negatives of maintaining home and family relationships.

It comes as no surprise that the survey revealed that 8 in 10 (82%) of business travellers have admitted to missing at least one social event or special occasion in the last year because they were away on a business trip.

Texting has emerged as the preferred method of communication as 32% of Singaporeans resort to mobile texting to reach out to families – a higher figure compared to the Asia-Pacific region average of 17%.

“While technology continues to evolve, most travellers still favor traditional ways to connect with family and friends. Digital tools, like video calls, are making it easier for travellers to feel more connected with their family when they’re away,” said Julian Walker of CWT.
