Kanye West has admitted defeat in the 2020 US presidential election, after creating a political party named 'The Birthday Party' to run for the top job. Kanye managed to scoop a small proportion of the votes this time around, and it looks like he's planning to run again in the next election.

The 43-year-old rapper took to Twitter to share what looks to be an intention to take part in the 2024 US election. He wrote: "WELP KANYE 2024."

It was already clear that Kanye West would not have a chance at getting into the White House, against the strength of the Republican and Democrat party support (Kanye was running as an independent). Having said that, the celebrity dad-of-four did manage to rack up some tens of thousands of votes.

Kanye West looks to appear on 12 of the 50 possible state ballots (meaning he received enough votes in each state to qualify). Although he failed to secure enough votes to pose any kind of competition to Donald Trump or Joe Biden, the star's appearance on any ballots at all has surprised some commentators.

As of 7.30am GMT, according to Associated Press statistics, Kanye West looks to have received almost 60,000 votes in total. He proved most popular in Tennessee, where 10,195 voters came out to support him. Unfortunately, Kanye didn't exceed more than 0.4% of any state's vote.

On Twitter, Kanye West's followers commented on his post with photos and videos of them voting for him. Unfortunately, the reception was frosty for some, as other Twitter users accused them of casting a "wasted vote".

Currently, there is no confirmed winner of the 2020 US election. The coronavirus pandemic has meant postal votes have soared, and so it's taking longer than normal to confirm the ballots in some states. The BBC reports it could "take days" for some states, including key Pennsylvania and Wisconsin, to officially announce their voting count.
