Heung-min Son says Tottenham should keep the pain of Sunday's late collapse against West Ham "in their hearts" to ensure it never happens again.

On Gareth Bale's much-anticipated homecoming, Spurs squandered a 3-0 lead with eight minutes remaining to draw with their London rivals, who became the first side in Premier League history to avoid defeat when three goals down by the 81st minute.

Son opened the scoring after 45 seconds before assisting the first of Harry Kane's two goals as Spurs blew away West Ham in the opening 16 minutes.

Afterwards, the disconsolate South Korean, who was replaced ten minutes from time with Spurs still leading 3-0, said the implosion must go down as a lesson.

"I would like to be celebrating the three points," Son said. "But what happens, happens, and we lost two points. This feeling we should always have in our hearts. It is very important that never happens during this season.

"I think the lads have had a good lesson. It is just so sad. It should never happen again."

The hosts were in cruise control and heading for second in the table when Bale made his second debut for the club as a 72nd-minute replacement for Steven Berwijn but they were stunned when West Ham substitute Manuel Lanzini scored a brilliant 30-yard equaliser in the 94th minute.

Fabian Balbuena had pulled one back for the visitors eight minutes from time, quickly followed by a Davinson Sanchez own goal.

"When we score three goals at home we cannot drop points," Son added.

"Obviously it is very sad. Especially the last goal, we cannot do it. The strike was just unbelievable. It is just so sad for me and the team. It is so sad to lose the two points."
